Every Fiat Grande Punto recall

Newest first. The concern is the part or system affected, the defect is what can go wrong, and the remedy is what the manufacturer does to put it right.

  1. STEERING MAY FAIL

R/2009/131, launched 14 December 2009, 308 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: It has been identified that the tightening torque of the steering shaft upper fixing bolt may not be correct. This may result in the emission of noise and in extreme cases breakage of the shaft which will result in loss of steering control.

Remedy: Recalled vehicles will have the subject bolt checked for correct torque which if necessary will be set to the correct specification. If the torque is outside of the rework stipulated range the shaft will be replaced.

  2. STEERING MAY FAIL

R/2009/130, launched 14 December 2009, 56,168 vehicles affected across the models it covers

  3. FUEL MAY LEAK FROM MANIFOLD

R/2008/181, launched 9 January 2009, 1,893 vehicles affected across the models it covers. Also covers the 500, Punto

Defect: Fuel may leak as on some engines the fuel manifolds may not be to specification. If the fuel manifold leaks it is possible that a loss of power could occur and the engine cut out.

Remedy: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to inspect the fuel manifold and check it for conformity to specification. Where necessary replace the fuel manifold.

  4. HEATER/CLIMATE CONTROL WIRING ABRASION MAY RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT.

R/2008/109, launched 18 August 2008, 28,557 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: It has been identified that the possibility exists of interference between the heater/climate control wiring and a dashboard bracket due to a missing retainer clip. In this condition abrasion of the wiring may occur with the attendant risk of an electrical short circuit

Remedy: Recalled vehicles will be inspected for damage to the subject wiring which if this has occurred will be repaired and repositioned. In all cases a new clip will be fitted.

  5. BRAKES MAY FAIL

R/2007/173, launched 7 December 2007, 4,804 vehicles affected across the models it covers. Also covers the Bravo, Multipla, Panda

Defect: Due to the possibility of a fault in the production process the flexible rubber brake hoses may not have been correctly vulcanised. As a consequence may partially or totally restrict the internal flow of the brake hydraulic fluid. Should this happen a reduction in efficiency during braking would occur.

Remedy: Recalled vehicles will have the hoses checked to identify if they are within the affected batch. If this is the case they will be replaced with quality assured items.

  6. STEERING COLUMN MAY BECOME DISCONNECTED

R/2007/033, launched 27 April 2007, 5,638 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: Incorrect profile (flaring) of the end of the steering shaft at the upper steering column universal joint. This may give the possibility of the steering column becoming disconnected from the universal joint with a consequent loss of vehicle steering.

Remedy: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to inspect the profile and flaring of the end of the steering shaft at the upper universal joint and where necessary renew the shaft.

  7. ENGINE POWER MAY BE LOST

R/2007/012, launched 20 April 2007, 1,474 vehicles affected across the models it covers. Also covers the Idea, Panda, Punto, Stilo

Defect: It is possible that breakage of the ancillary devices pulley on the crankshaft may occur. Should this happen there is the possibility that engine power and functions such as power assisted steering and braking assistance may be lost.

Remedy: Recalled vehicles will have the crankshaft pulley inspected and changed should this be necessary.
