Every Kia Sorento recall

Newest first. The concern is the part or system affected, the defect is what can go wrong, and the remedy is what the manufacturer does to put it right.

  1. Kia Cluster Malfunction Recall

    R/2026/139, launched 24 April 2026. Also covers the EV3, EV4, EV6, EV9, K4, Sportage

Defect: The instrument cluster screen may respond slowly immediately after starting the vehicle. During this condition activating the turn signal can cause the cluster to reset or the Blind View Monitor (BVM) within the cluster to turn green. The malfunction is caused by PMIC noise induced falsely high temperature sensor readings which trigger the chip protection logic above a certain threshold and lead to performance limitation up to reboot or black screen.

Remedy: Over The Air software update or dealer software update

  2. Kia Sorento MQ4 PDC Recall

    R/2025/130, launched 3 April 2025

Defect: When the turn signal is switched off after operating the turn signal or hazard light more than 5 minutes the upper part of Daytime Running Light (DRL) stays off. The DRL will subsequently not meet the required intensity standard.

Remedy: Kia will issue a software update via OTA (Over the Air) if this fails or a customer refuses the OTA update a Kia dealer will update the software.

  3. Kia HECU Fuse Replacement

R/2024/465, launched 5 December 2024. Also covers the Carens, Optima, Picanto, Rio, Soul, Sportage

Defect: The HECU hydraulic electronic control unit of affected vehicles equipped with Anti-lock Brake Systems ABS and Electronic Stability Control ESC could leak internally and cause an electrical short over time. In extreme cases the HECU could overheat with a possible risk of an under bonnet fire.

Remedy: The recall will replace the fuses in the junction box with a lower rated version.

  4. Turn signals may not activate intermittently due to improper switch contact in the multifunction switch

R/2023/269, launched 18 September 2023, 1,013 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: Turn signals may not activate intermittently due to improper switch contact in the multifunction switch

Remedy: Software update for the multifunction switch which increases the acceptable range for the control system

  5. Poor moulding of the plastic fuel tank by a temporary supplier can lead to a potential fuel leak

R/2023/077, launched 24 April 2023, 14 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: Poor moulding of the plastic fuel tank by a temporary supplier can lead to a potential fuel leak

    Remedy: Replace the fuel tank.

  6. The PTC (positive temperature coefficient) heater in some Sorento (XM) models can overheat due to potential damage of the connector terminal. This can lead to a malfunction of the PTC heater and a risk of fire.

R/2022/343, launched 6 February 2023, 6,377 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: The PTC (positive temperature coefficient) heater in some Sorento (XM) diesel models can overheat due to potential damage of the connector terminal. This can lead to a malfunction of the PTC heater and a risk of fire.

Remedy: Replace the PTC relay and move the wiring fixing point. In cases of local thermal damage of PTC replace the PTC core and connector.

  7. The High Pressure Electric Oil Pump within the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) may experience an internal fault

R/2022/363, launched 9 January 2023, 916 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: The High-Pressure Electric Oil Pump within the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) may experience an internal fault.

Remedy: Upgrade the software of the Transmission Control Unit (TCU). In rare cases it may be necessary to also replace the transmission.

  8. There is a risk the automatic gear shift lever could be moved out of Park without the foot brake pedal being applied. If this occurs and should the parking brake not be activated a vehicle rollaway could occur.

R/2022/328, launched 30 November 2022, 295 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: There is a risk the automatic gear shift lever could be moved out of Park without the foot brake pedal being applied. If this occurs and should the parking brake not be activated a vehicle rollaway could occur.

Remedy: Check operation of the gear shift lock mechanism and if found to be incorrect replace the Gear shift lock lever assembly.

  9. A FUEL LEAK CAN DEVELOP ON THE DIESEL LOW PRESSURE FUEL LINE

R/2022/143, launched 24 May 2022, 326 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: It has been found that a fuel leak can develop on the diesel low pressure fuel line which is mounted to the engine.

Remedy: Replace the low pressure fuel line module with improved parts.

  10. A FAULT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF THE FRONT L/H SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER

R/2022/147, launched 20 May 2022, 49 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: A fault has been identified in the manufacture of the front L/H seatbelt pre-tensioner.

Remedy: Replace the front L/H seatbelt pre-tensioner.

  11. THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR TO THE PTC HEATER CAN OVERHEAT

R/2022/104, launched 3 May 2022, 15,665 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: The PTC (positive temperature coefficient) heater in some Sorento diesel models can overheat due to damaged connector terminal.

Remedy: Inspect and if the PTC connector is found damaged replace the PTC and relevant wiring connector. Upgrade the operating logic of the PTC

  12. IF THE ECALL SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED THE VIN NUMBER MAY NOT BE TRANSMITTED

R/2021/002, launched 1 February 2021, 965 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: If the eCall system is activated the VIN number may not be transmitted.

Remedy: Reset the eCall system so that the VIN number is transmitted accurately when appropriate.

  13. WATER OR OIL MAY ENTER THE HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT

R/2020/187, launched 20 July 2020, 15,645 vehicles affected across the models it covers. Also covers the Sedona

Defect: The diesel fuel feed pipe that supplies fuel to the high pressure pump may deteriorate prematurely. The customer may initially notice the smell of diesel fuel leaking onto the engine. If the concern is not resolved the rubber hose may harden and crack due to fatigue. This in turn could allow the pipe to leak diesel fuel onto the engine. As with all fuel leaks there is a risk of catching fire.

Remedy: Recall the 24 vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace the fuel feed hose.
