Every Mitsubishi ASX recall

Newest first. The concern is the part or system affected, the defect is what can go wrong, and the remedy is what the manufacturer does to put it right.

  1. Mitsubishi ASX Exhaust

R/2024/416, launched 2 December 2024, 3,168 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: On affected vehicles a crack may occur at the welded joint of rear muffler to tail pipe resulting in potential detachment of the tail pipe.

Remedy: Replace muffler with a muffler fitted with a reinforcement bracket.

  2. INAPPROPRIATE ECU PROGRAM FOR THE BATTERY DETERIORATION JUDGMENT (STATE OF CHARGE)

R/2018/347, launched 8 January 2019, 11,430 vehicles affected across the models it covers. Also covers the Mirage

Defect: Inappropriate ECU program for battery deterioration judgement.

Remedy: Reprogram the software with the countermeasure software.

  3. THE BRAKE HYDRAULIC UNIT FUNCTION MAY BE INTERRUPTED

R/2018/285, launched 3 November 2018, 17,633 vehicles affected across the models it covers. Also covers the Eclipse Cross, Outlander

Defect: Driver assist programme functions through the hydraulic brake unit may be interrupted.

Remedy: The ECU will be rewritten with modified software.

  4. WHERE TAIL PIPE IS WELDED TO THE EXHAUST SILENCER A CRACK MAY APPEAR

R/2018/247, launched 12 October 2018, 8,787 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: Exhaust tailpipe section may crack at silencer weld.

Remedy: Check and replace silencer if cracked. Fit support bracket if not cracked.

  5. INAPPROPRIATE WATER PROOF STRUCTURE OF THE FRONT DECK

R/2018/182, launched 8 August 2018, 22,503 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: Due to inappropriate water proof structure of the front deck water can drop on the wiper link. The wiper link ball joint may corrode and cause excessive wear of the resin part of the ball joint. In the worst case the wiper link may detach itself and the windshield wipers may be inoperative.

Remedy: The water proof pad has been added to the end of wiper link rubber boot since April 1st 2016

  6. PARKING BRAKE CALIPER SHAFT BOOTS INCORRECTLY SEALED

R/2018/180, launched 8 August 2018, 51,154 vehicles affected across the models it covers. Also covers the Outlander

Defect: Due to improper sealing of parking brake caliper shaft boots water might penetrate inside and rust the shaft. As the result of continuous use the rust will erode into the internal caliper and the shaft becomes stuck causing decreased parking brake force. Due to improper manufacturing process automatic adjuster for brake pad clearance of rear brake caliper might not work properly. As the result as brake pad wear the clearance is not correctly adjusted and brake force becomes insufficient to hold a vehicle. In the worst case scenario parking brake will not work even though a lever is fully operated and parked vehicle may move.

Remedy: Anti-rust coating (Fluorine) has been applied to parking brake shaft from 27/01/2016 supplied parts & the Inspection process for the caliper has been changed from 14/12/2014 supplied parts.

  7. DOOR LATCHING MECHANISM MAY MALFUNCTION IN HOT TEMPERATURES

R/2018/021, launched 19 February 2018, 18,418 vehicles affected across the models it covers. Also covers the Outlander

Defect: The locking mechanism in the door latch assembly may not operate properly in high temperatures. As a result the door may latch correctly and may unintentionally open whilst driving.

Remedy: A modified assembly is available and depending on vehicle identification number the remedy is to replace either both O/S door latches or on all four doors.

  8. ECU RELAY MAY OVERHEAT AND CAUSE ECU TO MALFUNCTION

R/2018/019, launched 19 February 2018, 28,059 vehicles affected across the models it covers. Also covers the Outlander

Defect: The engine Electronic Control Unit Relay may overheat and fail. This could interrupt power supply to the engine and will cause the engine malfunction warning lamp to illuminate. The engine may stall and may not restart.

Remedy: On affected vehicles the engine ECU power relay will be replaced with a new relay.

  9. TAILGATE GAS SPRING END CAP MAY CORRODE AND COME OFF

R/2017/318, launched 3 January 2018, 15,668 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: Anti-corrosion treatment of the gas spring end cap in production was insufficient. The tailgate gas spring end cap corrodes to such an extent that the gas pressure inside can force the end cap to come off. In the worst case the end cap can hit the customer and/or the tailgate can fall down suddenly and result in possible injury.

Remedy: The anti-corrosion coating has been improved in vehicle production. On affected vehicles the rear tailgate gas springs will be replaced with improved gas springs.

  10. WATER INGRESS MAY DAMAGE THE WIPER MOTOR

R/2017/317, launched 3 January 2018, 12,443 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: Due to inappropriate water proof structure of the front deck water can ingress into the wiper motor. Water accumulated around the air breather hole might enter into the wiper motor when the motor is cooling down after operation. As a result the internal part of the front wiper motor may rust and seize In the worst case the wiper motor may not operate.

Remedy: The waterproof fabric has been introduced to the air breather cap since 10/01/2014 for RHD wiper motors. Check which type of breather cap is fitted and replace with new motor if the latest waterproof type is not fitted.

  11. BRAKE PEDAL FAILS TO RELEASE

R/2014/129, launched 28 November 2014, 4,333 vehicles affected across the models it covers. Also covers the Outlander

Defect: Due to incorrect installation of the switch sleeve in the brake booster the switch sleeve may be cracked. As a result the tip of the switch sleeve could break off causing the brake pedal not to release with the effect of the vehicle being unable to restart/move/pull away.

Remedy: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to check the production date of the brake booster. Replace the brake booster if it is of the affected production dates.

  12. ENGINE MAY STALL

R/2014/013, launched 18 February 2014, 5,359 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: Soot may build on the piston ring causing the ring to seize in the groove allowing combustion gases to by-pass the piston. If not rectified this if ignored could cause the piston to overheat and melt.

Remedy: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to reprogram the engine ECU with new version software to change the pilot injection timing.

  13. POWER STEERING ASSISTANCE MAY BE INOPERATIVE

R/2011/162, launched 16 January 2012, 6,154 vehicles affected across the models it covers

Defect: On a number of right hand drive vehicles it has been established that the electrical wiring harness to the power assisted steering control unit for the Electric Power Steering (EPS) has not been secured correctly. Vehicle vibration could cause a break in the connection between the harness and the control unit. Should this occur the EPS warning light will illuminate on the dash and the driver will experience heavier steering control although control of the vehicle is not lost.

Remedy: All affected vehicles will be recalled for the fitment of a modified bracket and securing clip.
