Every Renault Modus recall
Newest first. The concern is the part or system affected, the defect is what can go wrong, and the remedy is what the manufacturer does to put it right.
REAR BENCH SEAT MAY JAM
R/2010/038, launched 20 April 2010, 4,403 vehicles affected across the models it covers
Defect: The rear passengers may not be sufficiently restrained during an accident if the manually adjustable bench seat mechanism jams.
Remedy: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to fit a reinforcement bracket and a cable tie to the seat adjustment mechanism.
FRONT HEAD RESTRAINT MAY NOT RETAIN ITS POSITION IN THE EVENT OF AN IMPACT.
R/2007/143, launched 30 October 2007, 76 vehicles affected across the models it covers
Defect: It has been identified that the possibility exists that the front seat head restraint components may have been incorrectly welded into position in the seat frame. This in certain cases can cause the sleeve to become loose to the seat frame. This has the potential to prevent the front seat head restraints retaining their position in the event of an impact.
Remedy: Recalled vehicles will have the fabrication of the two front seat back frames checked. These will be replaced if found to be necessary.
STOP LIGHT FAILURE
R/2007/044, launched 13 April 2007, 4,234 vehicles affected across the models it covers. Also covers the Clio
Defect: Under particular circumstances of use the potential exists for the stop light switch to melt due to overheating of the grease in the circuit switches with the potential for coking of the contacts. This can result in failure of the stop lights and overheating at the pedal floor or smoke in the passenger compartment.
Remedy: Recalled vehicles will have the stop light switch replaced.
GEARBOX MAY DISENGAGE FROM THE PARK POSITION
R/2005/182, launched 17 January 2006, 55 vehicles affected across the models it covers
Defect: Due to the possible non-conformity of the gearbox control there is a risk that the transmission may disengage from the parking position (without the footbrake having first been applied)
Remedy: Recalled vehicles will have the conformity of the gearbox control checked and replaced as necessary.
STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY
R/2005/050, launched 20 May 2005, 9,514 vehicles affected across the models it covers
Defect: A risk exists that the steering column intermediate shaft has been incorrectly fitted.
Remedy: Recalled vehicles will have the position of the mounting yolk of the intermediate shaft checked and modified as necessary.

What to do next
If you own a Renault Modus, check its registration on GOV.UK and ask a Renault dealer whether any recall work is outstanding. If you are buying one, ask the seller for proof the work was done, and run a Motoring Insider history check for finance, write-offs and the MOT history.
