Most economical new cars

Figures for new cars on sale, figures updated to 29 October 2026, downloaded 31 Oct 2026.

New cars on sale in the UK with the best official fuel economy, from the Vehicle Certification Agency's WLTP figures, updated to 29 October 2026.

About these figures

These are official WLTP figures, measured in a laboratory to the same test for every car. They are useful for comparing cars, but they are not real-world mpg: most drivers get fewer miles per gallon, depending on speed, weather, load and driving style.

Each car model is shown once, at the best combined figure of its versions ("up to"). Models are grouped into 5 mpg bands and listed A to Z within each band, not ranked, because cars with similar figures cannot be told apart on these tests alone.

Plug-in hybrids and range extenders are left out: their official mpg assumes the battery is charged and is not comparable with other cars. Fully electric cars use no fuel and are left out too.
